Beginning in July 2000, Raj and Jill, working alongside a talented team of architects, land planners, and the Town of Southbury, set out to transform the historic Riker’s Farm into what is now Willow Creek Estates, Southbury’s first private, gated residential community. Once known as one of the world’s renowned Quarter Horse breeding facilities, the farm had fallen into significant disrepair over the previous decade. Rather than allow this extraordinary property to be lost to overdevelopment, Raj and Jill created a plan that would preserve its history, natural beauty, and equestrian character while thoughtfully introducing just 21 residential homesites on the upper portion of the property.

At the heart of the plan was the complete revival of the original farm. Raj and Jill painstakingly restored 65 horse stalls, added new outdoor riding rings and trails, built a 16,000-square-foot indoor riding arena and a new high-end 30-stall barn, and even created a historic Old English-style pub that reflects the unique character of the property. Just as importantly, they took steps to ensure that the farm and its open space would always be protected by placing the property into conservation. The result is a rare example of thoughtful development and preservation working together, saving a remarkable piece of Southbury’s history while creating an exceptional place for families to call home.
